About the Author

Dear reader,

I love to write.

It's kind of weird to say that, however, since growing up I never aspired to become a writer. I was perfectly content bouncing between the boyhood dreams of being a professional baseball player or an astronaut.

But I've always been a dreamer interested in ideas. Maybe obsessed is a better word. I tend to find one interest and dive head first into it until I exhaust all I possibly want to know about the subject. Sometimes that's a little, sometimes that's a lot.

With writing, it usually tends to take me about 70,000 words to drill down to the bottom of an idea, and by the end of it, I'm tired.

I first dove into an idea when my brother and I conceptualized secret beings living amongst us Earthlings. We called them Schnudels. I wrote a story about these Schnudels on about one-hundred pages (the last story I ever wrote with pen and paper), got up in front of my class to read it, and couldn't stop laughing.

These days, I think through ideas best when I put them into the structure of a story. Many of my stories come from a "what if" idea and then placing characters in that scenario with interesting viewpoints, and setting them free.

In Dragonspeak, I'm thinking about ideas of sacrifice and faith. In Tournament of Hearts, I'm thinking about traditional gender roles. Still, it is fantasy and fiction and I'm here to entertain, which is something I never forget.

What I'm trying to say is that I found the perfect job for someone who loves to let their imagination run. I'm beyond grateful for everyone who reads my work. Writing a book is one thing, having another person read it is different, and I'll be forever grateful that you've taken the time to explore these worlds with me.

Happy reading,

Austin
